Nikolina Komljenović holds an M.A. in Art history and Comparative literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. She is a performer, contemporary dancer, choreographer, aerialist, pedagogue, and producer of the Experimental Free Scene Association (ekscena). Her main concern is the idea of the performativity of a body as a subject. She explores notions of movement, gaze, voice, presence, space, time, light, and relation at the cellular, experiential, and relational levels. Nikolina engages in a dialogue with all the elements of the work directly on stage.
Komljenović’s first choreographic work was chosen for the Platform of Young Choreographers festival. She was an artist in residency of European projects Mixdoor and Island Connect, the Generator Platform, Zagreb Dance Centre, Erràtica laboratorio d’arte permanente Napoli, Circus Collective Split among others. Komljenović created performative art projects An object is transferring into the subject, Voic_ing, Almost slow, Prolapse, If I play a new game, Erasing Objects In The Space, The Thin Line. She realized visual art project and artist book 2 women / 1 body as well as documentary project Fencing Borders. She exhibited installation and video work. Of paramount importance was participating in the collective Theatre Aruša. Nikolina was collaborating with international choreographers Isabelle Schad, Rosalind Crisp, Sidney Leoni, Luis Miguel Felix and Ben Evans, Anne Juren, Eric Lecomte, Boris Bakal, Saša Božić, Studio for contemporary dance, Boris Barta, and many more. She performed as a dancer and/or choreographer on Impuls Tanz, Tanz Festival Winterthur, Open Spaces Berlin, Tanznacht Berlin, Ramallah Dance Festival, and Dance Week Festival Zagreb among others. As a performer and/or co-author, she participated in the work of Croatian and foreign visual artists such as Magdalena Pederin, Barbara Blasin, Vana Gaćina, Alica Frankovich, Cloe Turpin, Mirjam Wanner and curated exhibitions in Croatia and Serbia.
